About the Book
MY TIME IN HELL
A MARINE. A WITNESS. A STORYTELLER.
I wrote My Time In Hell not as a story of glory, but as a memoir of survival, brotherhood, faith, loss, resilience, and learning how to live after war. It details my service with Bravo Squad, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
The memoir explores the harsh demands of boot camp, the unforgiving reality of combat patrols, mortar attacks, and ambushes in Vietnam. More importantly, it focuses on the profound bond formed with the men beside me—a brotherhood forged in violence and uncertainty.
Coming home brought its own battle: PTSD, survivor’s guilt, grief, and addiction. This book is a testament to the process of reintegration and the enduring strength required to confront the past and find a place in civilian life again.
PEEK INSIDE THE FIRE
THE PROLOGUE
The air was thick and tasted of copper and dust. We had been walking for what felt like days, the jungle pressing in around us like a physical weight. Every sound was magnified—the snap of a twig, the distant rumble of artillery, the heavy, ragged breathing of the man in front of me. This was Vietnam, and it didn’t care if you were eighteen or eighty. It only cared if you were ready.
